Find Ancestors

Hey everyone, hope you all had a good Christmas!

I'm trying to get some information together on a rellie of mine. Her name was Beatrice Skinner, we know very little about her other than she married a man by the name of Andre Alfred Louis Ignatious Von Mehren possibly in Spain.

All we know of Beatrice is that she may have been born 1870 ish and came possibly from the Taunton area. The only sure fact we have is she went to Girton College, Cambridge.

Now try as i might i cannot find any census listings for the college !!

Hoping someone might have some ideas on how to find this elusive data.

....and yes before you ask it was a residential College!!

I know.... sadly it's losing it's shine as he was Danish born, met her somewhere possibly Spain and then had 6 children there, one of which came to England, educated here and married an English girl, they then had my MIL.

So it's all a little complicated. Somehow André senior met and married an English girl abroad. (we think)!

As we have no UK marriage i cannot confirm her details.... it's getting more than a touch frustrating.

Is it worth contacting Girton College to see if they would check their records? She may not have been there during census years

Thanks for that Catherine. but that Beatrice goes on to marry an English guy and settles in England.

Our Beatrice has her son André Alfred Louis Ignatious Von Mehren in Barcelona 1893.

I have been on it most of the morning!, i've even researched the founders of the College incase they appeared on a census for the College.... but no joy.

Yeah i have that image.... we didn't know about that trip until we found it.... and very weirdly the address he gives on the shipping list is where his son still lives today!

I'm going to look at the voter list Catherine has thrown up, i have world ancestry.

The references it makes are to those who have either Louis, or Von in their names...

I contacted Peterhouse (also Cambridge) about my father's time with them, and had a really helpful response.
