George William Charles Shuttle - born 1897

Eaj123 Report 20 Jul 2010 00:24

I am trying to find who George William Charles Shuttle is.

He was born at St Olave Southwark London in 1897.

On the 1901 and 1911 census he is living with William Pipkin (b1871 Hemel Hempstead) and his wife Lily Patey (b1869 Abingdon Oxfordshire) and is shown as William's nephew.

The sisters of William Pipkin who I haven't found husbands for are:

Jane Pipkin (1860) Emma (1874) Annie (1881) and Rose (1888) all born in Hemel Hempstead. I can't connect George Shuttle to any of them.

I don't know the family of Lily Patey.

Has aybody please got any ideas on how to find who our George Shuttle is?

Many thanks

Liz

Thanks for the info.

I'm trying not to get a birth certificate as he's not in my direct line - just an interest.

I keep coming across "interesting" people!

Thanks again

Many thanks for all the information on George. I feel I'm getting better at searching records but still miss a lot.

Now I'll have to see if I can find any information on WHY he was staying with his aunt and uncle- a death or too many children to look after as seemed to happen sometimes back then.

One mystery solved and opens the doors to others!!

Very many thanks again. I do appreciate your help and interest.

Best wishes

Liz

Hi Lindsey

Thanks for the marriage record in the name of Suttle. They did seem to change the spelling of their names quite frequently - as I've found out with other relatives.

That should help me with tracing the family - if I can't find it in one name I can try the other.

Thanks again.

The death of his father explains why George went to stay with his aunt and uncle.

Thanks for clearing that mystery up.

Thanks for the Census records. Poor Charles wasn't very old when he died and lots of small children to support.

Interesting to see the Trinder family in the census - I've found several of my closer relatives - several different families - living in the same street for decades. They didn't have to go far to find husbands and wives! I don't think people moved as much back then.

Thanks again

Liz
