Sorry Richard im confusing myself, John Alfred (1913) married Martha Kemp (1918) and they are my dads parents. Im wanting to go back further if i can, does that make sense?

Yes i there is my fathers father who is John Alfred
And there is John Alfreds father who is Alfred

All these John and Alfreds dont help haha
