Marni Report 2 Nov 2006 21:25

My maternal great grandmother, Jane(t) Hamilton Frances Scott, born c1855 in Ireland (possibly Ballina) protestant, married Arthur Norton in Haswell Parish Church, Co Durham 26 Jan 1877. Father's name om marriage Cert. John Hamilton Scott (Painter). Would be extremely grateful for any info on this Irish connection. Family legend mentions her hiding in a ditch with her nanny watching the house being burned down by Catholics while her uncles out burning down Catholic houses. She retained a bitter hatred of Catholics all her life and died in Sheffield 03 Feb 1940. Six children survived infancy :Hamilton, Lilian, Aline, Verity William, Roberta & Verna.
