Find Ancestors

Hi,

I am struggling to find a birth record for Sarah Ann Wilson born abt. 1873 in Bramhope, Durham.

She married James Moore / Moor, I believe he may have been a coal miner. They lived in and around Tow Law, Weardale, Durham.

There seems to be a number of Sarah Ann Wilson's born in the Durham area in 1873. Just need to locate the correct one!

Birth registration was not compulsory until 1875

Her father's name will be on the marriage cert, and you could include that info when ordering any possible birth cert(s)

This is the only one tried various spellings of Moor

the marraige cert will give father's name and occupation, this will help get the right birth.

I think you will find that her birthplace was BURNHOPE..........

Thanks for that, Ricochet! I was just about to look in 1891 by birth place.

The 1901 image does indeed say Burnhope.

I've checked on the map, the only place called Bramhope that comes up is in West Yorkshire

Can you double check where Sarah Ann was born, presumably you have on the census somewhere

It's up to you......but the marriage cert will not tell you anything other than her age and her father's name.................and you already have those details...........

A bit more info -- 1881:

She's Mary A in 1891, but the details seem the same (she's a few years older than Thomas, 1891 says born Riphill(?)).

I agree with Ricochet -- unless you're looking for James's father, the marriage cert won't tell you much.

I think I might use the money and go for the Sarah Wilson registered in Weardale reg dist in 1874.
