Hi All, Does anyone know how to find out what happened to people who landed at Ellis Island? My grandfather Thomas Addis Ryan, born 1882 in Oldham seems to have gone over in 1909 on the ship Caronia [in Nov]. He was a Master Mariner, so I'm told. I cannot find anything in this country apart from hs marriage to Sarah Jane Kerr [my gran] in September 1909 and the reference to Ellis Island from IGI record pilot. I would appreciate any help, please, Thank you. Joyce |

He was a passenger (Not crew member) on the 1909 trip so he may have been travelling to join another ship. His wife obviously remained in Liverpool. He obviously did not intend to stay in the US. |

Hi That's great. Have not got that info - looks like she lived with her father while hubby was away! I notice that Charles Dowling was under Kerr on the 1911 one. He was adopted by Thomas and Sarah at about 5 months. I recently got his birth cert [info via 'trying to find'] but haven.t got any further. If he changed his name that could be the reason!! Thanks so much. Joyce |

You may be able to find out more about Thomas Addis Ryan as if he was granted a master mariners certificate. |
