Joseph Ross 1837 Dunbarton, Sc. P's John & Sarah.
married Widow Kastner: Eliza S D Holst 1877 in Rockhampton, Qld. Australia. Born in Dumbarton, Scotland, on the day that the late Queen Victoria celebrated her eighteenth birthday, Mr Ross joined the army, while still a young man, and went to the front at the beginning of the Crimean war. He was a spectator of the renowned charge of the light Horse Brigade, and took part in the battles of Inkerman and Alma. After the close of this war he was ordered to South Africa, where he spent a short time with the troops engaged in quelling the native rebellions. Thence he proceeded to India, and saw active service right through the troublous times of the mutiny. A few years after these events he arrived in Australia. He remained a number of years in the southern States, and then came to North Queensland. He spent some time on the Palmer goldfield, and finally settled for the rest of his days on the Lower Burdekin, Ayr Qld Australia died 1904.
