ROBSON, Robt J Son Single M 15 1896 Coal Miner Junction Keeper Below Ground Cambois Northld. Robert was my great grandfather be became a musician he could earn more money in one day playing music that all week down the pit. He was quite famous in his day working with the top of musicians and jazz outfits of the time he also recorded records too |

Cambois was a coal mining village from 1862 to week ending 20 April 1968 when Cambois Colliery closed. Seems the coal mine leased houses some of which were in bridge street so houses came with the jobs I guess . What a picture it paints in your mind of what life must of been like ....hard times ! |

I live near London :( when I was about 10 went went up to Durham and Newcastle to visit this side of the family. May have to plan a trip to the coal mine :) |
