I got his parents names from Bernard's marriage certificate.

Does it give any occupation for his father on the marriage cert

The marriage is on IGI for Patrick Rafferty and Mary Robertson 1863 in Greenock

Born 28 March 1871 Dundee...may be worthwhile checking 1871 census Dundee for this family....it would also account for the "gap" in between births of Barbara and "Barney".......

All the girls died at 2 or under. There is a death for a Patrick Raffferty in 1885 no spouse given or parents.

Yes, on Bernard's marriage certificate both parents are listed as deceased.
I've also found Patrick and Mary's marriage certificate and it does give Patrick's parents as Bernard and Catherine.
