Looking for any relatives of Eliza Quarmby born in Stalybridge around 1831. Eliza's father was James Quarmby born in Stalybridge around 1812.

Hi Anne,

I don't know if there is a connection but my mother's maiden name was Azubah Quarmby and she was born in Stalybridge in 1902. Her father was Joseph Robinson Quarmby, born in Dewsbury in 1873. His father was a John Quarmby who was born around 1852. Census records indicate that John Quarmby was born in Stalybridge but I cannot find a record in the BMD register in Stalybridge/Dukinfield/Ashton-under-Lyne at that time. Can you make any connection with your Stalybridge Quarmbys?
On John Quarmby's marriage certificate (Dewsbury 1873) the place for his father's name and occupation is left blank - suggesting that he miight have been the illegitimate son of an unmarried mother - but there my trail runs cold.
Any help that you might be able to give would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Ron
