Thank you Ann! Following up on your '"Potter and Moore" information I was so surprised to find the company still in existence! However it looks like there were a number of Ephraim (John) Potters born in 1721 to 1724 timeframe which could make any of the three James Potter's father. The three would also be good candidates for the one who founded Potter & Moore. I shall definitely investigate further... what a great lead.
And James & Elizabeth also had a son Benjamin born circa 1808 who could have been named after an ancestor.
Thanks for all your trouble! Diane

Family Tree Forum - Mitcham Mitcham was once a small Surrey village, and though as far as postal .... in the 1700's – Ephraim Potter and William Moore – have not been forgotten, ...
Lavender is synonymous with Mitcham, and Mitcham Lavender can still be found in Garden Centres. The two local men who started lavender production in the 1700’s – Ephraim Potter and William Moore – have not been forgotten, and their business continues as “Potter and Moore”, producing “classic English fragrances

James & Elizabeth were parents of my GG Grandfather Charles POTTER baptized the 24 May 1812 in Elstead, Surrey. Charles' siblings, were John POTTER (bap.16 Mar 1800); Jane POTTER (bap 14 Mar 1805); Benjamin POTTER (bap 19 Feb 1808); and perhaps James POTTER (bap 13 Jul 1794). With the exception of James who was baptized in Frensham, Surrey the other children were baptized in Elstead, Surrey.
I think James senior was born circa 1764 in Mitcham, Surrey and Elizabeth PACEY was baptized 25 Mar 1773 in Mitcham or perhaps 25 March 1775 in Iping, Surrey. Her parents were Thomas PACEY and Catherine DORICUTT who were married 03 Sep 1770 in Mitcham, Surrey. I believe they had another chiild - Sarah PACEY, born 24 Jan 1773 in Mitcham.
The above information came mostly from the IGI.
I do have information on Charles and his siblings (and their descendants) and census records, etc. But I would love to verify what little info I have on James POTTER and Elizabeth PACEY (perhaps from parish records) and to expand on this info and go back even farther. James' father may have been named Ephraim or John.
Many thanks for any suggestions or help anyone can provide.
