Thank goodness for that Cathy. Was feeling like Jeanie No Mates:-)))

On my ownsome again - another nudge.

Dozey Report 6 Jul 2010 08:16

There you go - another misconception. If only people were given all this advice as they join instead of expecting all new members to go and look at FAQs. etc. it would surely make a great deal of difference. Perhaps we should but we don't. I just jumped in at the deep end.

So glad you posted Karen.

Hi Karen, it's probably because most new folk put the name they are looking for into the filter box and they get loads of old messages from others researching that name. They don't realise what an open forum this is and, you're right.....it is exciting especially when someone comes up with something you never knew about. Great fun.

Thanks, now I understand! I thought this was just to find others searching same family tree! Didnt realise others like to check things out! and we do get excited! Thanks to all the helpful selfless researchers!

Gael - I posted on an Australian site early March about relatives who emigrated there in the 1850s. Just had a look - 118 hits - responses - 0! Used to look frequently - now it's once in a blue moon.

Yes, Jeaniealogist you are probably right. I stand corrected. I know in the old days we would put a message in and was lucky that anyone answered it at all !!!! One was answered two years later.

In fact I didn't answer you straight-away.

A nudge from me

Little nudge for Spain

Dozey

Dozey Report 4 Jul 2010 15:08

Afternoon Cynthia. Think you omitted the word 'one'.
Hope this little nudge will bring it to the attention of others. The thread that is - not the omission:-)))

Hi Gail, Jeannie's right. It's often a matter of sheer ignorance of site workings. I get loads of messages back from folk telling me that they had no idea they would get replies so quickly - if ever!

It's of the reasons I pm people who haven't replied and doubt things will ever change.

Thanks for the info Sylvia. I did have an inkling Germany was still in because otherwise I would have heard on the news it. So we have three EU countries with a chance. Well, I've been to Spain - had best family ever there although furious with OH who went on the sea in one of those paddle boat things. Dropped all our Travellers Cheques into the sea. Had to swim to get them back and then sit on the beach drying them out! I ask you!

Well I suppose where there is a will there is a way. Ingenious folk these drug smugglers, what.

Gael - I do suspect a lot of the time it is only ignorance about how the system works. First time I posted I had no idea people might reply the same day, or even the same week or month. I do not know if computers work differently but when I go onto 'my threads' it doesn't show a closed mail box as I thought it should if someone had posted later.

I agree that people should wait. It's only a matter of courtesy - I posted some details for a person just 2 minutes after they put it on line. Where have they gone??

I was once hauled out of the queue at the xray machine in Bermuda to unpack my hand luggage.

They were only interested in a 14" lighthouse ornament which had been carefully bubble-wrapped.
It seemed there had been many confiscated which were made of drugs and overpainted.

well, all the ones tipped to win the World Cup

........................ seem to have been defeated!

Today Germany beat Argentina 4 - 0 and Spain beat Paraguay 1 - 0

Yesterday Uruguay beat Ghana, and Netherlands beat Brazil

............ and I've just seen this on my internet news page

Colombian authorities find World Cup trophy made of cocaine at Bogota International Airport.

The 36-centimetre-high (14-inch-high) statue was inside a box headed for Madrid, Spain. The statue was painted gold with green stripes on the base.

......... laboratory tests confirmed the cup was made of 11 kilos (24 pounds) of cocaine mixed with acetone or gasoline to make it mouldable.
