channel islands deaths

I am trying to trace the deaths of some of my extended family . I have made contact with the channel islands family reseach and they require a fee to search the records there. So before I part with yet more money I was wondering if anyone might be able to find the deaths or if they have any experience with these kinds of research bodies such as CIFHS

For the record ( and before anyone wastes lots of time searching on my behalf ) I do know a fair bit already so it is really the deaths or whereabouts of the following

William Seymour Perry born c 1854 jersey
Harriet Perry nee Simmons c1856 jersey --all st helier
Ada perry c 1880

I have these three up until 1891. On Jersey heritage site there is a record of Ada being admitted to hospital but do not have details.

The other three children i have more info on

William Perry c 1875
he appears as Seymour perry on both 1901 and 1911 census and is a Comedian !!
He marries a Priscilla Neil also from Jersey and by 1911 they are in London.
Her will is available from jersey so she obviously died there ??

Emily Perry c 1877 never married or left jersey. We have a copy of her will but it tells us nothing at all - no family bequests or mentions.

Ethel Johanna Perry is of greatest interest to me. She is last known in London in 1912 giving birth in the workhouse and there the trail goes cold for her.

Thank you in advance of any help or info anyone can offer. To stress again I have the whereabouts of these Perrys up to the date I have specified.

Best wishes and thanks for your time

Thanks Annie, will take a look .
My instinct is that they probably stayed in Jersey as their youngest daughter , Ethel, was already in london in 1901 training to be a servant in an " institution" . She was only 14 and it seems a big thing to do if her parents were still alive . She did have an uncle in London so maybe she was sent there at first but put into training.

There is a death for a Ethel J Perry in 1960 which would fit with her birth year.

No way of knowing if she is yours without buying the cert.

Hi , thanks for your interest.

Does it indicate where the death was registered for 1960 ?

The Bishop Stortford marriage i have explored before- from memory there is an Ethel Jane Perry in BS in 1911 so felt it was most likely her . I guess without cert no way to tell for definite but likely .

Cheers

Yes, just been looking at the death you found and trying a search on bmd to see if I could pluck a marriage out of nowhere for this Ethel J Perry - as in if Perry was married name.

Thanks again. Really appreciate your interest.

I feel fairly confident that the Bishop's Stortford marriage is for Ethel Jane Perry.

The Kensington death is very interesting , it is just a case of whether Perry was the woman's married name or not.

I don't think we thought there was any link just two different results for possible events for my Ethel Perry.

best wishes

ps just being cheeky but can anyone access Jersey deaths - possibly / probably for the other family members I listed in the opening of my thread
Cheers

Big thank you to Jerseylily who took the time to have a look at the archives on Jersey whilst she was there.

We now have deaths for Harriet Perry 1892/93
William Seymour Perry 1898/1900

Next time Pam is there she is hoping to see the actual cert entries which will hopefully give us some more details.

The will of Priscilla Perry nee Neil told us very little . I believe her husband William Jnr ( - took Seymour Perry as his stage name) probably didn't die on Jersey. I also think they may well have been childless .

The person at the centre of my search is still Ethel Johanna Perry. What the death dates of her parents reveals is that she was "orphaned " by 12/13 which probably accounts for her being sent to London to her uncle Henry. This is my assumption , not fact.

If I can't find any marriages or deaths for Ethel then I will run out of strands to follow up. Parents dead, brother William (seymour) married no children , sister Emily , not married , no children. Probably other sister dead at young age - Ada

I am asking the virtual impossible but if anyone can see Ethel Johanna's marriage or death I would be hugely grateful. Born 30/10/1885- St helier Jersey. I know where she is until 1912 when she has a baby in the Brentford Union workhouse which she did not keep.

thanks for your interest

best wishes

If you google Parsons Green, Fulham there a few links to discussions on the orphanage there. Looks like it was a council run place, perhaps the servant training in No.5, was for the older girls before they left.

Only mentioning it as if she was in an orphanage rather than with an uncle her story changes. I have to restrain myself from concocting imaginative story lines for my lot but I hope you manage to find out what happened to Ethel!

Hi Karen, thanks for your interest.

I did know about Ethel being at Parsons Green in 1901

I have just googled again as you suggested and there are two possibles.

Elm house and Jubilee Training Home which specifically says 7 Parsons Green , est. 1887- to train for service respectable girls rescued from dangerous moral surroundings.

I was suggesting the uncle theory because to me it makes no sense for a 14 yr old to travel from Jersey to London when I have been told there was a workhouse on the island and a sister already in work as a servant on Jersey . We will never know the full version of events.

And for fear of repetition I would love to be able to tell my uncle what became of Ethel.

Thanks again.

I have been able to access the Birmingham Electoral roll through a separate website, going back to 1912 for my Birmingham relations etc

Does anyone know of or have access to a similar facility for London ? 1912 onwards ?

thanks
