Did she have a middle name?

Registration district: North Tyneside
Inferred County: Tyne & Wear
Volume: 2
Page: 1163

Although this one married a Percy in 1924...

What was Margaret's maiden name? Could she have married again after 1938? When was she last known to be alive?

Was 1973 when her husband James died? Was she the informant of his death?

I'm not finding a likely looking remarriage after 1973 and the only other death has a wrong year of birth - but of course dates of birth given on death certificates are sometimes wrong as it's only what the informant gives to the registrar so if someone gets it wrong then it's wrong on the cert.

Name: Margaret Percy
Birth Date: 18 Dec 1908
Death Registration Month/Year: Oct 1992
Age at death (estimated): 83

Does anyone in the family know anything more about her? Like did anyone attend her funeral etc?

Do you have the details for her children? I have noted them down but wont post them in here in case any of them are still alive. If you want the details let me know and I will send them in a private message instead.

FamilyFogey Report 16 Jan 2011 11:24

Well I think your next step Sandra is to purchase both those marriage certificates. From those you should hopefully get her approximate year of birth from her age given at marriage (provided it doesn't just say 'Full Age' meaning over 21) but should give you her father's name from which you can then try and locate her in 1911.

And Christine2 is right - how can you be sure she was born in Tynemouth? That Margaret Dryden birth in 1908 in Lanchester in the Oct/Nov/Dec Q would fit with that death I found for a Margaret Perry in 1992. I notice that with both her marriages she does not have a middle initial, and neither does that death entry I found, so it's possible she didn't have a middle name - which again would tie into that 1908 one Christine2 found.

So for instance - this is the 1911 census entry for the 1908 Margaret:

DRYDEN, Isaiah Head Married M 27 1884 Miner Hewer Durham Consett
DRYDEN, Emily Brown Wife Married
3 years F 27 1884 Durham Castleside
DRYDEN, Margaret Daughter F 2 1909 Durham Castleside
DRYDEN, John Son M 0 (5 MONTHS) 1911 Durham Castleside

RG number:
RG14 Piece:

RG14PN29888 RG78PN1730 RD550 SD2 ED11 SN171

Registration District:
Lanchester Sub District:
Consett Enumeration District:
11 Parish:
Knitsley

Address:
Consett Park Cottage Consett

Married for three years, 2 children - 0 had died.

Thank you Alex :) I noticed that there was no Annie for a middle name on the marriages or deaths and I can't help but think that isn't her birth.
Sandra did say DEFINITELY not the one I found though. So I assumed that she had disproved it somehow.
As you say though, Sandra needs to send for one/or both marriage certs.

FamilyFogey

FamilyFogey Report 16 Jan 2011 14:26

Well I'd like to understand why Sandra knows for sure it isn't the 1908 Lanchester one - if she doesn't know who her parents were etc.

So if that one is right then here is the marriage of Isaiah and Emily:

Marriages Sep 1908
BROWN Emily Lanchester 10a 551
DRYDEN Isaiah Lanchester 10a 551

Isaiah's birth:

Births Sep 1883
DRYDEN Isaiah Lanchester 10a 329

And their son John from the 1911 census:

Births Dec 1910
DRYDEN John Lanchester 10a 345

And Isaiah's death (mistranscribed)

Name: Isaian Dryden
Birth Date: 29 Jun 1883
Death Registration Month/Year: 1970
Registration district: Durham Central
Inferred County: Durham
Volume: 1a
Page: 577

So just in case Margaret turns out to be that one you've got a bit of info!

been trying to find out some more info margaret dryden married thomas paynter had 2 children with him then after his death in 1935 remarried james percy and had ( approx )another 7 children we think but cannot find out when she died as no one seems to remember

FamilyFogey

FamilyFogey Report 16 Jan 2011 18:10

Sandra

Margaret and Thomas had three children - will PM the details.

And Margaret and James had seven children and will send those details in a PM too.

Perhaps if you search for the names on Genes Reunited trees you might find some of the family who might be able to tell you some information.

FamilyFogey

FamilyFogey Report 16 Jan 2011 18:32

Correction to the above looks like Margaret and James potentially had 9 children, two of which registered under her former married name as her maiden name. Details PMd to Sandra.

So Sandra - next steps, buy both of Margaret's marriage certificates to check her ages on both to see what approximate year of birth it gives you and what her father's name is. Also check out the children's names on here to see if anyone has them in their trees and could give you any further information about when she died.

FamilyFogey Report 16 Jan 2011 21:08

And in case anyone like Christine2 is still following this - have now found a death in 1975 which is the right one, turns out Margaret was born in 1911 and was the daughter of Joseph Dryden and Alice Tuck, details including 1911 census for the family sent to Sandra.
