Find Ancestors

I am trying ti find information on Alice Amelia Ann Pendleton Who was born in Adelaide Australia in 1865 she married James Gibbins on 27/11/1890 in
Cheetham Manchester and then had 3 sons Sydney,Leslie and Dudley and a daughter named Olive. I also can't find a record of the birth of James Gibbins who was born in Openshaw manchester according to the 1911 Census.

I would appreciate any help or pointers for research.

Thank you so much for all the information. I think I now need to find out more information on why Alice left Australia I believe she had a brother in Manchester but I don't know if the whole family came to Manchester or just the two of them and why? Do you know where I should look next?

It looks like all the family returned to the U.K. maybe someone with access to the 1891 Census can check for you. There was a James, John & Amelia A Pendleton in Prestwich, not sure if the correct family.

Thank you so much Mel I think the John James and Amelia in Prestwich will be the correct ones as my Mother in Law remembers her Grandmother was Alice Amelia born in Australia and her brother James who used to visit them at her Fathers house in Polygon Road. But I would like to know how to find out how and why they went to Australia, not sure where to begin but I believe you can research shipping records?

Thank you so much it looks like you have found them it's very interesting as last night I found a Amelia Bolwell Age 12 in Wiltshire who was aquitted of larceny in 1846 at the local court. I also found her on the 1841 Census living in Bradford Wiltshire and her Father is Benjamin and Mother Charlotte.
at the time she was 6yrs Old. But the records show her as being the 4th Daughter.
The insolvency and the letter sound interesting it may be a reason why he they came back to England.

Is it possible to find out what James Pendleton and Amelia Bolwell were listed as on the ships records? My mother in Law is convinced they may have been shipped out to Australia for some crime. As she is now 90 years old I would love to give her an answer. I suspect reality is they just hoped for a better life. Also is it possible to find out when they came to England as I know there was only Alice and James listed on the census as being the 2 surviving children. So I would think the four of them came here together and settled in Manchester near James Family.

Have only just seen your post. I believe your James Gibbins was the brother of my close friend's great-grandfather John Gibbins. He had sisters Jeannie (Martha Jane), Elizabeth and Emma. I believe my friend Marea has a photo of two of these. There was a brother William.

The parents of John and James were John (1834 Manchester) and Elizabeth (c 1834 Longridge, Preston.) The earliest Gibbins we have are John (1801) and Cecily (1804) both born in Cheshire.
