Hi all

Long shot really, I might not get anywhere with this post but just posting it cause its not a very popular name in here and someone might recognise the name hopefully..

Just started on my nans side and just by the off chance wondering if I could find any of her living nieces or nephews out there

My nans name was

Betty Smith nee Parrington 1916-2006 was married to Harry Smith 1923-1986 Burnley Lancashire Eng

My nan Betty had a sister named Mona, Mona moved to Minnesotta , ( not sure when, but she had the US accent) I remember a sons name being mentioned called Ricky ( also my dads name) i was only a child but I got good memory, not sure if he died early in life I heard he was stabbed in a pub brawl ( in minnesota US) but sure he was killed not 100 perc tho.
Somewhere along the lines their mother died early too not sure if it was suicide or a house fire I heard to different stories, but you know families they keep schtum about things like that.

Thankyou for your reading hope it aint been to depressing

Hi Shellz.

Some basic info is usually good to start with. You can find Mona's birth here:

http://www.freebmd.org.uk
(click on the red Search)

Because it is an unsual name, I didn't need a date or place to find her.

Births Mar 1921
Parrington Mona Cook Burnley 8e 278

Then I searched trees for her here at GR (button in the row above this thread).

No one has her in their tree -- including you. You would be wise to put her in your tree here, so that if someone else does search for her, they will find you.

The big question would be whether mona moved to the US before or after marrying. Might she have married a US serviceman in England and then emigrated?

I don't see any match for her name on passages out of the UK before 1960:

http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action

Her marriage will eventually be findable at FreeBMD, if that is the case. They are currently working on transcriptions for the 1920s and 1930s.

Right now, you could search the original images of the GRO marriages index to see whether you could find her marriage (assuming she married in England). You would need to subscribe to Ancestry, for example (you can get a 14-day free trial). Then you have to download a page image for each quarter of each year when she might have married, starting in 1939 and going forward, and search the list on the page for her name, to find her husband's surname. And then download the page for his entry, to get his full name.

It's rather tedious. Someone may volunteer to do it, but not me tonight! Waiting a few weeks/months will mean you can do the automated search at FreeBMD.

Oops, cross-posted -- you're welcome!

And then ... there's google!

http://test.royandboucher.com/genealogy/familygroup.php?familyID=F5668&tree=T0001

If you click on the name Philip Earl Walker on that page, it says:

Born 11 Aug 1926 Red Lake Falls, Red Lake County, Minnesota, U.S.A

It appears that the person whose family that is, is the child of Mona Parrington's daughter and Philip Walker's son.

I would be contacting that website owner!

Oh, and Mona's husband is Wilbert Henry Dralle.

Wilbert Dralle doesn't seem to have been born in England. The name sounds Germanic, very common in the US.

Come back, Shell! I've found you a descendant of Mona!

Go here:

http://whitepages.addresses.com/white_pages_city/25287.html

White pages for Red Lake Falls, Minnesota

There are two Dralle listings there now.

Of course, it may be a very common name in Minnesota ... but there is only one listing in Minneapolis, the state capital.

I don't have paid access to Ancestry US records, but if you go here

http://www.ancestry.com/search/

and search Historical Records for

[name of a child of Mona and Wilfred - edited to remove personal info]

(I found that name on a google search for Wilbert)

you'll find several records of him, son of Wilbert.

E.g. -- I can't see the details --

Minnesota Birth Index, 1935-2002
Birth, Marriage & Death
Name:
Mother: Dralle
Father: Wilbert Henry Dralle
Birth: date - Dakota, Minnesota

and his marriage and children, and divorce. And subsequent marriage. Or that could be a Jr. That one gives details, which I won't reproduce here -- he was born 1963 and married 1988.

Here we go, duh. Searched for Mona herself at Ancestry US.

Minnesota Birth Index, 1935-2002
Birth, Marriage & Death

Ta da.

I have to run now, but that should keep you busy!

You could try searching for those names at Ancestry or just via google, and see what you might find.

Here's a better white pages site (you just have to pick the state, not the city).

http://www.phonebook.com/directory/Minnesota-white-pages.php

25 Dralles in Minnesota. Not an overwhelming number!

EvieBeavie Report 12 Jan 2009 03:05

If you make a note of all this, tomorrow I'll delete the info about Mona's children. It's all available at Ancestry, but it's a little personal about living people.
