Find Ancestors

I have Georgina's marriage in 1884 to Robert Cockrill at Yarmouth Norfolk. I have managed with help to find their 7 children up to Violet May born 1895 Yarmouth Norfolk, on the 1891 and 1901 census.

Now I need help finding the parents of Georgina Cullen 1867.

Can anyone help please???

1871 census for Gorlestone - Great Yarmouth

George Culling - Head - 37 fisherman - Haddiscoe
Caroline Culling - wife - 31 Gorleston, Sullfolk
Georgiana Culling - 6 - scholar - Gorleston, Suffolk
Florence Culling - 5 - Yarmouth, Norfolk
George Culling - 2 - Gorlestone, Suffolk
William Culling - border - Wid - 73? - Suffolk

I noticed that, although Georgiana had birthplace as Yarmouth, Norfolk on the 1891 census, she had Gorleston, Suffolk on the 1901.

Do you need me to go back on this to check on the parents?

You need to get the marriage certificate, that will tell you Georgina's father's name



and it is the only way to be sure that you have the right family

I do know about getting the marriage certs. but just wanted to see if we could find them first as we were having trouble with all the family names being spelt differently.

It looks like a George Culling married Caroline Wells in 1861 - Mutford - Norfolk/Suffok

A Caroline Wells is on the 1861 census as born 1840 in Gorleston, Suffolk. So this ties in. But did Culling change into Cullen?

Could well have done I suppose. There again my surname is Hannabuss and one of my rellies was married under the name of Annabuss and we have the cert. to prove it!!

Or perhaps the man who married them was a little hard of hearing.

Christina....................yes Georginanna appears to have been born both places on the census and with different names. Her birth comes under Georgianna then on the census she is Georgina.Then again if they wanted handouts from the parish at any time they did'nt get it unless they were born there. Therefore many people said they were born in the parish they were living in at the time.

Hi Melanie, Take a look at the IGI on familysearch. It looks like the marriage for Georgiana's parents is on there.

This must be the one I found it on Ancestry.

From IGI - Samuel Wells married Harriet Holt - 18th September 1826 - Gorleston, Norfolk

I don't know if that comes up on the Pedigree part because I always use the IGI section. I've found too many mistakes on the others.

So this must be Catherines parents. Thanks for that Christina. I shall be sure to give it to Linda. I would love to know the date of the wedding between Catherine Wells and George Cullen.

Think you could be right with the parents of Caroline though and that came from IGI.
