Does anyone have information on Owen Owen who was born in Denbighshire around 1814? He was married to Ellen and they had at least 6 children, one of whom was called Samuel. They appear in the 1861 & 1871 censuses, living at 56 Wellington Road, Wavertree, Lancashire. I am trying to trace my great grandfather whose name was Samuel Owen and wonder if he was Owen's son. Can anyone help please?

No, that is my problem, I can't find proof that he married and I don't know what else to do. I know that he was born in 'Liverpool, Lancashire' area around that time so I was looking at possible matches. I thought that if I could find someone who had the family in their tree I might be able to find him that way - if that makes sense?

Thanks for replying.

Ann

I am having problems tracing my great grandfather Samuel Owen, I cannot find proof of his marriage and therefore don't know what else to do. According to the censuses he was born in Liverpool, Lancashire around mid-late 1850s so I thought I would look at possible matches. I don't know if this is a good idea/waste of time but I am desperate.

Thanks for your help

Janet
who did Samuel marry please and roughly when

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 1 Jun 2010 22:27

pm from janet

"My great grandmother was Emma Amelia Groom, the 1911 census states that they were married in 1888, however I haven't been able to find a record at all for that year or any other.

The first child born was Lily May in 1889, however there is no father named, but when she got married, it gives Samuel as her father!"

so is this Lily May?

Births Mar 1889 (>99%)
Groom Lily May Sudbury 4a 670

and the marriage you are looking for is Samuel Owen to Emma Groom?

Janet

Janet Report 2 Jun 2010 05:58

Yes, that's her. The next son Owen was born in London, then William in Leighton Buzzard, then my grandfather Samuel back in East London!
and yes it is their marriage I am looking for.

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 5 Jun 2010 23:29

when were Owen William & Samuel born? Were they registered as Groom or Owen?

They must have been lying in 1911 as Lily was born in 1889 & she was registered as 'Groom'

have you found them on the 1891 & 1901 census?

Janet

Janet Report 8 Jun 2010 08:11

Owen b. 06/11/1890
William b. 21/02/1893
Samuel b. 23/10/1896
all give Samuel Owen as father, although for Owen and William, Emma is the informant of the births.

1891 Census - shows only Emma, Lily and Owen @ 152 Kensal Road along with 4 other families.
1901 Census - they are all listed including another child, Edith b. 07/02/1899 @ 4 Beck Road (again Emma was the informant)

I think Samuel's work in the iron/steel industry may have taken him away from home and that might also explain why William was born in Leighton Buzzard

I can't find any sign of a marriage either. Maybe they just pretended! Perhaps Samuel already had a legal wife.
