Andrew O'Neil's family in New Zealand.

PATRICK O'NEIL married CATHERINE GILLIES in 1863 at Willunga, South Australia.

Their children were MARY ANN 1864, JOHN 1866, CATHERINE 1868, ANDREW 1870 & MICHAEL1873. The family lived at Willunga, Myponga & Port Elliot.

1. MARY ANN may have married Patrick Joseph SHEA in 1892 in Adelaide - however this needs to be confirmed.

JOHN, ANDREW & MICHAEL O'NEIL moved to Broken Hill probably looking for work. Andrew & Michael were involved in the Shearers' Strike of 1894.

2. JOHN (JACK) lived around Lochiel & Snowtown after his marriage & return from Broken Hill - he was a butcher.
Esther Adelaide BRENNAND may have been his wife - however I need confirmation of this.

3. CATHERINE (KATE) married William McMURRAY & was then widowed. She married a 2nd time to William BONFIELD in 1911 at Norwood. I do not know if they had any children.

4. ANDREW - after working in Broken Hill moved to New Zealand. In 1910 he married Hanora ( Norah) PEARCE in Wellington & had 4 children, Andrew, Molly, William & Kenneth (died aged 4 1/2 yrs.).

I have no birth dates for the children - except Kenneth born 1917 - the family was living at 65 Tasman Street in 1922.

Andrew jnr. married in 1938 Sadie Margaret Ann HUGHES - I have no further information about him or his siblings.

ANDREW & NORAH O'NEIL were living at 82A Rintoul Street Wellington when they passed away in 1943 & 44.

5. MICHAEL O'NEIL married CATHERINE BEERWORTH in 1900 in Broken Hill where they had 7 children 4 of whom survived.

PATRICK O'NEIL was my great grandfather & he arrived in South Australia before 1860. He fathered a son WILLIAM WHITE O'NEIL (my grandfather) in 1861 at Myponga. William's mother was ELIZABETH ANN WHITE - I have been unable to find anything about her.
