Find Ancestors

I have tried to post this already but I feel I have done something wrong so here goes again...
Hi chaps, I wonder if anyone can help. I have hit a dead end with my G G G Grandfather Thomas O'Neill that I know was living in Ancoats Manchester in the 1800's. I believe he was born in 1798 and Married a Mary Foster. They had a son called Thomas born in 1825 and He Married Mary Ravey or Ravy. I have their marriage Certificate which is where I got Thomas Senior from. I am now lost as to where to trace back from Thomas b 1798. Any ideas from anyone out there.

Thanks for this Anne. I have some of those names so I think you have the right people. I am not sure if the 1st Mary Foster would be correct as she is Thomas O'Neills (b 1798) wife and the mother of Thomas O'Neill (B 1825), so I think she would have Been Mary O'Neill in the 1841 census

I have tried researching this John O'Neill but can not connect him to thomas O'Neill. Any experts out there who can help?

I have recently been told of John O'Neill b 1777 in Waterford, Ireland and I believe he may be my G G G Grandfather. As I am relatively new to this geneology thing, I can not be sure if this is the correct chap. Prickly Holly did a great job on this site and found him through The Kendal family tree, although I can not find this tree. How can I be sure this is the correct man as I can not get any information of his family as I dont know where to look.
