I am trying to find marriage of Dennis Nugent and Mary Ann Brown. On the 1911 census she says 'married 18 years' so the marriage should be c1893. The only marriage I can find is in 1916 in Easington, Durham. They have some cousins the McGurks living with them in 1911 at 25, Northcote Street, Stockton. Dennis was born Ireland, Tyrone c1870. My great grandparents lied on the 1901 and 1911 census about being married - eventually found the marriage in 1914 |

Really strange as a lot of members are finding marriages in 1914 after the 1901 or 1911 census wonder why |

Wel it may be that Patrick served in WW1 and had to be married in order to send home his family allotment. Had an instance in my close family where they had lived together for 5 years and had two children before they married in 1914. There was no legal reasons why they hadnt married before then |

Thanks to you all!! I had found the 1911 census and the 1901 but was puzzled by the Donneas Nugent on the 1891 census. I shall risk it and send for the marriage certificate in 1916. I like this site!! I am almost 80 so you will have to bear with me but thanks to you all. Lois |

Hi Shirley, Can you tell me where you found the 1901 census for Dennis Nugent. I found it on Find My Past but didn't get the actual details and I ran out of credits. On the genes reunited site it doesn't seem to know him. I found him on the 1911 census. I have the folio number etc for 1901. Can I use that? Regards Lois. |

No, can't search using the numbers, the surname field is mandatory and doesn't seem to accept a wildcard. Really frustrating, find it all the time - can see someone on FMP but they don't appear on here. Sorry Lois, I've tried as well but can't find them on GR. |

Lois, found them been mis-transcribed on GR, so if you search for Hugent you'll get to them. |

Hi all helpers, I sent for the marriage of Dennis Nugent to Mary Ann Brown and the one in 1916 was correct. Why they decided to marry after all that time is a mystery but it is worth the £12 to be sure. Thanks again for your suggestions. Lois |

Hi Jax, Didn't know that as I started Family history 40 years ago when you sent for certificates to the appropriate register office. Thanks for advice and will try that next time. Thanks again all helpers. Lois |
