Sorry I had to dash off last night so couldn't finish what I started. I just thought it was a coincedence with his name and his occupation..... following the family in the census returns I have found his son with the same name and occupation (cab proprietor);

I'm struggling to see the family in 1881 at the mo, but will look into it.

Was Florence Amelia a boarder at the age of 1 on the 18881 census with the Ocoud ?? family?

Do you have her on any other census? I can't see a marriage for W J Newton and F Hooper... so maybe the father was named on the birth cert but the parents weren't actually married??? Also did you note the name of the wife for the elder W J Newton..... I wondered if the child had been named after his mother???

The Framptons are visitors from Fulham the same area that Alice Newton is from.... yet I can see NO marriage for this couple, is that because W J Newton was already married???

hi i am really confused now about them details you put. i dont really know that much about them. the birth cert reads, born 11th august 1880 111 cambridge road south willesden hendon. father william joseph newton. mother florence newton nee hooper. f. newton mother 111 cambridge road south. register october 1880.

I'm sorry if I confused you about the info I put..... I was thinking that seeing there was no marriage listed for her parents that they weren't actually married.

I picked up on the W J Newtons and thought that maybe he was F A Newtons father, especially due to the fact that his mother was also called Amelia... which was Florences middle name... often children were named after there parents or Grandparents.

In 1881 there are no Hoopers or Newtons living at 111 Cambridge Road, so maybe they were there for just a shorth while?


The chap that I put the info on here about was marrie to Eliza and then he seems to state he was unmarried and then later again he was living with Alice.... this would suggest to me that he was still married to Eliza, however they had parted. So maybe he was the father???

Some things we will just never know, unfortunately.

hi, i am still finding this part of my tree difficult to find out about.

florence amelia newton 11.08.1880 hendon, willesden.
parents name on birth cert. william joseph newton and florence newton nee hooper.

i cant find any marriage between a newton and a hooper. also i cant find florence amelia newton on 1881 or 1891 census,
so where do i look now?

Can you explain how you come to have her birth certificate? Presumably, you have her in a census somewhere?

Do you have a marriage for her? What is listed on her marriage cert?

florence amelia newton is my grandad mother, she was married to harry smith. marriage cert. 1915 reads florence amelia newton 35 years fathers name william newton (deceased) hanson cab driver.

also found them on the 1911 census
harry smith 33 marylebone
florence smith 32 willesden
harry smith 10 son paddington
florence smith 7 hammersmith
thomas smith 1907 hammersmith
emily smith 6 months fulham


then i know my dad comes in 1912.
so from these details i found florence amelia newtons birth cert, as its the only one i can find and its in hendon willesden. and it reads 11.8.1880 florence amelia newton father william joseph newton mother florence newton formerly hooper.
