the only thing i have found that is firm evidence is the 1901cencus and a marriage certificate for my mother and father in which thy live in town street gateshead and that the both came from west hartlepool i think i have traced john but am not sure.

This is a possibility for Mary in 1881 but don't see one for 1891.

yes.but just took out mums marriage certificate and that says john william mowbray.
