Find Ancestors

Hi,
I'm trying to find any information about Charles Sydney Vane Morrison. He's my friend's Scottish grandfather born in1860 and died 1917 (in Ceylon). He also married Louisa Mary Aydon.

I've searched the Scottish records and Family Search to no avail and wondered if anyone could check the English ones for me as I don't know how to use them as so far all my relatives are Scottish. I had thought with all his names he'd be easy to find but not so far.

I was just given the bare details and as he was her Scottish grandfather we just assumed he was born in Scotland though I think she said he was a tea planter in Ceylon later on so will check all info out and get back to you all though could be a while as will need to get her phone number from Mum as she's really her friend.

Hi All,

A quick update - I'm waiting to hear from the church in Kandy to see if the minister there can find any baptismal records for him and also marriage record for him and Louisa Mary Aydon. Will get in touch with Mum's friend after I hear back about this though as it's Easter it will be a busy time for them.

Hi All,

Sorry haven't got back for ages but thought I'd update you all on what have found since last posting and having just been on holiday and given updates to Mum's friend, who is Olga's daughter and Olga was an only child. No luck with minister in Kandy but his wife who does the family history searches put me in touch with another minister but after e-mailing twice no reply. However someone on RootsChat told me to e-mail the British Library which I did but unfortunately all Ceylon Records stayed in Ceylon though I was given the address for the Records Office there.

Also from Rootschat got the following:-

Mr C.V.S. Morrison from the firm of Messrs Finlay, Muir & Co is Acting Consul for Spain and Portugal in Ceylon. (Mr M.T. Finlay of the same firm is the Vice-Consul for Spain in Ceylon and the Consul for Portugal)

His address while Acting Consul for Portugal was 12, Queen Street, Colombo

Mum's friend asked me to thank you all for your help and also said she'd always wondered why they had a spoon from the Mauretania and now she knows though unfortunately it was stolen in a burglary. The family is going to get in touch with the Records Office in Ceylon in due course.

So at least now you have his wife's name and Glitter found her baptism earlier on in the thread.
