Find Ancestors

Please can you help me to find William Miller b 1835/7 he was married to Alice Porter although i can't find this and have been looking for 4 years thier children were Elizabeth b1859 James b1860 Rebecca b1862 they were porters until the 1871 census then John Tomas 1869 William 1872 Tomas 1874 George 1876 my grandfather 1880 i looked in the 1841 census and could not find william b1835 /7 he was down as holden and his father was James 1816 i am lost before 1861 can you please help

There are 136 William Millers in the 1871 census of that age, we need to be able to narrow it down.

And could you clarify "he was down as holden"

I'm lost myself! Are you saying the first children were born as Porters then changed their names? It would be good to see a census report for them.

the larger gap between Rebecca & John's births suggest that perhaps William married Alice between 1862 & 1869

William b 1835/7 was born in Lamberhead green Wigan they moved around quite a lot but never left in 1881 they were in Hindley i have no priif of him being an holden it is something my friend saw in the 1841 census

Yes this is the family but i can't find a marriage for William and Alice, i have all alice's family (the porters ) but none of williams regards Pat
