Anthony was born in Ireland, probably County Mayo c1836. I know that he had a son called Edward born c1882. It will be very much appreciated if anybody could do an irish look up for me.
Kind regards
Christine

Thanks for the information Kay. It looks like this is a match. I now need to find out more information on Anthony's parents and Edward's siblings.
Best Regards

Christine....Check the 1911 Census Co.Mayo (Free to view) you have lots and lots of McTigue and Tigue's...this is where the problem for you may arise...are you after McTigue...or Tigue.

Thanks for your replies.
I have found an Anthony McTigue in the 1901 census. His wife was called Anne and the children listed are Eddie 19, Anthony 17, Annie 15, Michael 12, Thomas 9 and Patrick 6. I also found Peter born 1878 but not sure if he is from the same family.

Christine...So is this the family you are after looking for..1901 ? Have you checked 1911...?
If you are reasonably certain it is "your family" I can look through and see what I can find further back....

To ErinGoBragh1916.
I think they are the family that I am looking for. I have checked the 1911 census but can't find anything. There is a possibility that some members of the family went to America or Canada during the potato famine, It would be good if you could find some more information for me.

Christine...

Ellis Island data base should show details but I have searched for the family and although dozens of McTigue's emigrated to the US from the Co Mayo I cannot find Anthony (1907) SS Etruria.
Maybe Kay can let you know .....
I will try again using alternate spelling but am not even getting the Etruria for that date...
Found the manifest but cannot get any McTigue/Variations so far...goodness knows how the name is written

Hi Christine and ErinGoBragh

I found the family via Ancestry.com, on their New York Passenger Lists 1820-1957, spelling McTigue. Could not find them on the Ellis Island site.

I wonder what happened to Eddie and young Anne, they were not with the rest of the family? Have tried to find them travelling beforehand and after, no success as yet.

Eringobragh1916 Report 24 Jan 2010 15:55

Afternoon Kay.....Thank you for confirming they are not on EIllis Island DB...
Have been through nearly every permutation of the name..found the Manifest but sure I dont feel like going through something in the region of 600 Passengers at the moment...
I am after wondering if the others went out on the Cedric/Teutonic (1905/6)...
may be worthwhile checking out the earliest Federal Census to see where Anthony ended up...
Dont know if Christine has any details relating to that...will have to wait until she replies.

Hi Kay and ErinGoBragh
Thanks for your hard work finding out information.
My grandfather was called Edward which could be Eddie. He came to the UK and married my grandmother Mary E Marsden on 4th October 1917. I applied for their marriage certificate which told me their father's name's.
My mother told me that Edward never spoke about his family . She thinks that he was in the Highland Light Infantry during WW1. Apart from that I know nothing about the family.
Kind regards
Christine

Eringobragh1916 Report 24 Jan 2010 19:29

Evening Christine...

The details from Edwards MC will show fathers name which I assume is Anthony...Where were Edward and Mary married...?
What was Mary's Fathers name..or have you that sides info.already

Christine

Christine Report 24 Jan 2010 19:54

They were married in Middlesbrough Register Office and yes the MC show's Edward's father as Anthony McTigue (deceased) and that he was a farmer. Edward was a private in the Highland Light Infantry on the MC which also states that he lived at 12 Walker St, Middlesbrough. I found the passenger list on Ancestry - thanks.
I have info on Mary's side already.

Eringobragh1916 Report 24 Jan 2010 19:58

Christine...Thank you for that ..interesting he was in the Highland Light Infantry...Not sure if they recruited around the NE...I am inclined to think there is a Scottish Connection along the line....
Was Mary RC...?

Christine

Christine Report 24 Jan 2010 20:41

It looks like there could have been an Irish division of the Highland Light Infantry as I think that he was already in it before he came to the UK.
Edward was RC but not sure about Mary.

Can't seem to find anymore information. Does anybody know how I go about obtaining my grandfather's (Edward McTigue) birth certificate as he was born in County Mayo, Ireland. Hopefully that will show me his mother's name. I already know his father's name.
Thank you
Christine
