Looking for info on the McKendricks from Greenock, Scotland.
Found a few Census records relating to them and thwe various spellings of the surname.
All I know is Arthur McKendrick married a Elizabeth Campbell in 1871 and had 6 children.
The children were Catherine Campbell (1872), Alexander (1874), Flora (c1878), Mary (c1878), Margaret (c1880) & Arthur (1886).
Any info on this family would be grateful recieved.
Many thanks.

HI
Thanks for the info, will add to tree sounds like the right info as I did find a 1901 Census having the McKendricks living at 6 Ingelston St, Greenock.
I know their daughter Catherine Campbell McKendrick married my GG Granda John H Galbraith.
Did the other children die young? marry or emigrate, I've noticed that sometimes Scotlandspeople is a little short on info for some people.
Many thanks for those of you who responded though.

This is one of the problems with older docs, I have Arthur McKendrick as being married to an Elizabeth Campbell in 1871 in Greenock.
I know this is a slight diversion from the McKendrick line, but on her marriage cert it gives Elizabeths parents as Peter Campbell & Cath (what looks like FINNIE). However when you look at Elizabeths death cert, it has Peter Campbell & what looks like Catherine McAuslan. Did Arthur marry twice?
Also as far as I know Alexander McKendrick married a Mary Logan in 1902 (Renfrewshire

Iain

Our death certs give details of all spouses and given the fact that his daughter registered the death she would have known if her dad had remarried so I think it is highly unlikely but I will have a wee look

Jackie

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 21 Nov 2009 01:19

I cannot see another marriage for him and searching for a marriage for McKendrick and Campbell shows up nothing else either. I think the problem is that because they could not read or write then they could not correct any entries that were wrong and accents could be picked up wrong. The death cert for Arthur definately only has one spouse noted on it so unless the marriage took place before he married Elizabeth and in Ireland I think it is down to illiteracy. There are some wierd and wonderful spellings in my tree
