Mary Jane Mcewan McHugh McKeown, McCue was born Glasgow/ Port of Glasgow sometime between 1845 and 1856 depending on which marriage, death, shipping or birth of child record that we view. we do know she married Richard French Dundee Scotland 04.01.1869. Scottish births records start 1855 so you would need the parish records on Scotlands People, If she married in 1869 would she have been born 1856 ie aged 13 on marriage? |

Presumably the parents names come from her marriage. Have you found their marriage on Scotlands People? |

yes I have a copy of the orginal but Mary jane signed with a mark so who knows what was transcribed and both were declared deceased at the time of the marriage. Her age was given as 24 but 7 years later on the shipping record it was given as 38 and then birth of first child in australia was given as 21 in 1876 so she either had no idea or had such a thick accent she could not be understood. |

thank you - the problem seems to come because they themselves could not read and write so relied on others to spell it. My father was named as his second name Dixon but the family name was Dickson on his fathers side - they were scotish but my grandmother filled in the form and so as she was irish she spelt it Dixon like the irish do.... |
