Does anyone have access to the 1930 & 1940 / 50 U.S census?

Am searching for details of J C Mcdevitt - Pennsylvania state born 29/7/1929.

Occupation - Nurse

1930 census shuld record as 1yr old or less.

unsure about any siblings or parents names

Died 1976 England.

Any details census or otherwise greatly recieved.

It's amazing what you can do w/o paid access!

Search for surname McDevitt in Lawrence Co., PA, in 1930. Spot the ones who look of an age to be his parents, and test out the names by searching for him with one and then another as parent. Once you've identified the parents, search for any McDevitt in that location with those parents!

Aha, narrowed it down - mother was Charletta M ... so search for any McDevitt with wife Charletta to get the husband's name easily, then search for the kids ...

Oops, I was having too much fun searching while handicapped. ;)

any ideas as to how i might find his military service?


he came to UK in 1950's married my aunt and died in 1976...no one knew of his family in USA !

For reference. There are another 5 different James McDevitt born 1928-30 in Pennsylvania.

There is a tree on ancestry with him on. States he married Eunice Worrall in 1949 in Middlesex. Divorced 1950, living in England, remarried Eunice in 1973. I take it this is yours?

Travelling to 9 Cove Street, Weymouth, Dorset with 11 month old James C. He was a male nurse.

yes they married twice! I know that from family stories

He surved in the U.S military before coming to UK

His son James Jnr was born USA too but i cant find details - son's DOB 14/4/1951

The ancestry tree is my tree yes! Im trying to trace his american family to see if there is anyone surviving...his son and wife are both dead.

My James Charles was 8 mnths old at the time of the 1930 federal US census...

So I just need to cross check the 2 i have found that have been posted on this thread to ensure i get the right one...

So far no siblings unfortunately...unless anyone can assist?
