Kaye Wilson (nee Cochrane) 9th May 2007 I am trying to find out some information on my great grandmother Mary McColgan about the 1850s. She was born in Avish Tyrone Ireland and her father was Edward McColgan and mother Margaret McCulloch. She married Francis Dooley in Toowoomba Australia. They eventually settled in Pittsworth Queensland Australia and had 7 children. Francis' parents were Peter Dooly and Mary Flynn. I have been unable to find out any Irish history about their parents etc. and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Kaye.

Hello Kaye,
My grandfather John McColgan was born in Evish near Strabane County Tyrone 11 December 1857.
His father was a James McColgan who died 17 March 1887 and I have down Edward McColgan and wife Margaret as his parents but it may be a guess from his children's names - Edward, Sarah, John,Margaret,Daniel, Rose Ann Anne and James. There are several McColgan names in that area and I'm trying to sort them out but being McColgans they don't tell me much!!
What information do you have on them and I'll try to check it out. It's very difficult to get Northern Ireland records. Did Edward have any brothers or uncles etc.? When did she marry etc? Was she on her own in Australia?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Shaun
