I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT ABOUT FAMILY FROM OLDHAM / MANCHESTER AREA. ELLEN(NELLIE) MAYALL WAS BORN IN 1885 IN THE MANCHESTER AREA, HER FATHER WAS POSSIBLY A STANLEY MAYALL. THERE WERE 2 BROTHERS AND A SISTER FOR ELLEN AND SHE MAY HAVE BEEN THE YOUNGEST. THE FAMILY EMIGRATED TO NEW ZEALAND AROUND 1900. JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE IS ABLE TO RECOGNISE THIS FAMILY AND BE ABLE TO HELP IN FINDING OUT MORE FROM THEIR TIME IN ENGLAND BEFORE THEY EMIGRATED.

Where did the info re Stanley come from?
Do NZ's BMDs contain parental info, and do you have any for Ellen?
Do you know the names of any of the two bros & a sis you mention?


Freewheel - good point abt the water damaged 1851, as this affected both Salford - Regent Rd and Salford - Greengate, so probably affected John here. I'd forgotten abt that.

THE QUERY WAS FROM A FRIEND OF MINE WHO HAS MOVED TO SCOTLAND FROM NEW ZEALAND AND HAS BEEN TRYING IN VAIN TO FIND ANY OF HER ENGLISH ANCESTORS. I GAVE HER THE DETAILS THAT CHRISTINE HAD POSTED AND SHE WAS DELIGHTED TO FIND THAT THERE WERE HER ENGLISH RELATIONS. THE DETAILS FROM THE 1891 AND 1901 CENSUS ARE CORRECT. MY FRIEND ALSO HAS SCOTTISH ANCESTRY IN HER BLOOD TOO AND HAS MANAGED TO FIND OUT A LOT ABOUT THEM AND WHERE THEY CAME FROM WHICH WAS FROM DUMFRIESSHIRE IN SCOTLAND AND IT IS QUITE FUNNY AS SHE HAS NOW MOVED INTO A COTTAGE 5 MILES FROM WHERE THE FAMILY ORIGINALLY CAME FROM.
