Find Ancestors

I've hit a brick wall with the above and would appreciate some help.

Isaac Mawson born c1823 Cumberland, married Mary Ann Robinson (born c1828 Bootle) in 1855, Whitehaven. Isaac died 1875, Bootle. Mary Ann last found on 1881 census living Warton with Lindeth with twin daughters Mary & Margaret (b 1870 Bootle) and son Isaac (b 1869 Bootle).

I think Isaac senior was married before, as on the 1871 census a grandson (Thomas, b c1867) was living with them.

Can anyone find any further details on them please, I'm trying to find their parents etc - no luck so far with search trees on here, or on LDS.

Not sure about Mary Ann being the grandmother, the surname was Mawson so I assumed it was Isaac's grandson, but I'll try to check out the possibility.

Isaac & Mary's daughter, Mary, was my g.grandmother and none of the family have managed to get any further with her, which is why I'm trying now. At least now I've something more to check out.

By "no further" do you mean in the Mawson line or the Robinson line?

We've managed to get no further with either of them. Can't find parents or siblintgs. Nor can I find a death or re-marriage for Mary Ann either.

Mary Mawson, their daughter & my g.grandmother, married Robert Smith in Grange over Sands in 1891, she died in 1943 and was buried at Lindale church, Lancashire.

If you can get any ealier info I'd be grateful.

Ignore the Isaac Mawson I found in 1851. I found him again in 1861 as an unmarried Grocer's Shopman.

As it's doubtful you're going to find him with his parents it looks like you'll have to get his marriage cert. I just wish I could find him in 1851.

Now here's a possibility for his parents, Ruth is the name of his eldest. The date of the marriage fits with Isaac c1826.

Sorry I haven't thanked you earlier, we were away yesterday. This is really useful info, I'll get the marriage certificate for Isaac & Mary Ann ordered. I'm also hoping the local library may have some parish records which I can check against for the parents, but I'll get the certificate first.

Still waiting for marriage record, the GRO had a problem and refunded my money, but they've traced it now.

A general question this time. Have tracked through virtually all Cumberland birth records, but still can't find him. Does anyone have any idea what % of children/births were actually recorded through baptism records prior to registration began please?

Hi again,
I've now finally got the marriage record, they were married in the registry office, Whitehaven district. Isaac was down as living Ennerdale & his father was Isaac Mawson, deceased - husbandman, but I can't trace anything back from there.

Still not sure of his parents, the only death I can find for an Isaac Mawson is Q1/1843 on BMD, nothing on LDS from 1825 - 1855.

Can anyone else find anything more please?
