I am trying to find the marriage of a Mary Rylands born about 1842 in Warrington to a Mr Joyce possibly in the Manchester area about 1861. Any help or advice very much appreciated on this matter

Susan

Susan Report 7 Jul 2010 15:13

Oh dear, I don't want to complicate things, all I know is that she had a son called John Joyce on the 1881 Census with her new husband and his family.
If I remember correctly he was 15yrs old at that time not too sure now! say about 1866 and he was down as born Manchester

When did she re-marry and what was her second husband's name?

Susan

Susan Report 7 Jul 2010 15:17

Ah Potty that I can answer, she remarried September 1879 in Salford Manchester to a Samuel Glithero who lived in Crown Lane, a Beer Retailer, am sure he is on the 1881 Census with the new family

Potty I don't know as at first I thought it was his new wife's mother but then thought it might be his first wife's mother as if you notice their first daughter is called Sarah!

Just had a thought what if she married in Ireland, as Joyce is a very popular name there?

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 7 Jul 2010 15:41

What is her fathers name and occupation on her marriage to Samuel?

Maybe look for John Joyces birth to give you his fathers name?
