You'll be surprised to know that over 200 people have been given Mace as a christian or middle name from 1916-2005!

Over 300 in 1837-1915

Several of them have Mace as the mothers maiden name. It is a way of keeping a name in the family

Do you know his mothers name?

Angela

Angela Report 12 Aug 2009 19:34

Hi Smiley, his mums name was Dorothy Hadland

It's very possible that Mace was his father's surname. I'm not saying that it would be definite but a lot of illegitimate children were given their father's surnames as middle names ...

Have you got her parents?
Have you located her in 1901?

If you dig deep you might well find the name Mace somewhere

Hopefully you know when she was born, or at least the year, maybe even where.
You will definitely need her birth certificate to get any further, I would start there if you serious about this hobby

Do you have your fathers birth cert Angela?
Just checking there is no middle name for Dorothy?

Did he talk about his mother? Do you know if she married?
There is a likely marriage to Harold Blackmore 1936, Liverpool.
