born dublin 1834. any details would be welcome please - prior to his life here in Essex. Father was also William, a bookbinder - presumably Irish? |

Further info: May 29th 1834 St Peter's Dublin. This detail came from a document linked to his work. A researcher for the Church in Dublin couldn't find a record of him in either St Peters or St Johns. This has hit a brick wall. |

Thank you very much indeed to you both for your amazing work on this. It is definitely William George, not Henry. I can't get back beyond his being on the censuses in England. Someone in the family did a family tree but when he died it went with him, unfortunately. |

yes, he was. i haven't found anything on him in Anglesea. He then moved to Kent and he appears on his marriage cert.in 1868 as a drummand in the 7th batt. of the army - based at shorncliffe. |

Most of the older Service Records are on Find My Past but a great many of them were destroyed by fire and water in WW11 so unfortunately they are lost forever. |

I spoke too soon!! I have just found it I think. He was discharged as a Sergeant in Portsmouth in 1871 and joined up in Dublin at the age of 14 years and 11 months in 1847. No parental details though but gives his birthplace as St. Peter's Dublin. When he joined he was a bookbinder by trade. |
