Find Ancestors

Desperately trying to find Thomas Loveday as above. He married Elizabeth Davies 1870 - 1907 and had 5 children all on 1901 census.
He was born in Swindon Wilts, father on marriage cert is john. Died swindon 1913.
I have a lot of info on family but ned further help please.

Have you discounted the one below because the birth date does not completely fit?

Apologies everyone I've just been advised that I have replies to this thread.
I am trying to trace the death date for Thomas Loveday born 1867 and having absolutley NO LUCK after hundreds of hours of work. Also trying to trace his parents John is father.
He did not die in 1913 in Neath as I have just purchased that death cert and the informant is from another loveday family , i.e. informant is brother in law henry hancock.
The 1881 census is correct but his age has been incorrectly transribed from the original it should read 24 years not 21, this agrees with the 1867 date of birth.
I know he died before 1914 as 2 of his children confirm this showing father deceased on their marriage certs. I know he was alive in 1901 as he is shown with his five children and wife elizabeth on 1901 census in wales. I cannot find him on 1911 census. There is only one other death that I can find between 1901 and 1914 and that is for a thomas w loveday 1913 in Swindon but I dont think that is him. Awaiting death cert on that one.
I acnnot understand why I cannot find his death ??

I did discount the 4ths one as 4 years out.
I have looked at Thomas Henry Loveday born 1867 - could be him and then saw a thomas loveday aged 3 as a lodger in 1871 census. I would really like to find his birth first. On his marriage cert. It does show his place of birth as Stratton, Swindon Wilts.
I looked on 1881 census but can only find a Loveday aged 14 (OK) butcher, lodger BUT born stroud ??

It has not been unknown for children to say father deceased on their marriage certificates IF the father had lost contact with them or there had been a big family row



so you might want to widen the time lines in searching for his death registration

This means that he is very possibly the Thomas Loveday shown on the 1871 and 1881 Censuses as son of Eliza and born in Stratton

Eliza shows herself as Widow .......... but there is no sign of a husband!



John could be a made up name!

Thank you for that, it is just that 2 children had him as deceased so I just went along with it. The problem is that the death certs show such little info that I need to make sure I get the right one. I already purchased 2 wrong ones but I'll extend the years and see what I can find.

Yes that is the wife Eliz in 1901.
It does say stratton but in the 1891 census ( they were married in 1890 in says swindon wilts. There is a mistake on his age on this census, incorrectly transcaribed from orginal it should read 24 years. THis is them.

Yes Francis and Rosa are elizabeths and thomas children. I have traced the offspring of them and berths, but cannot find marriages of Elizabeth 1893 and Eliza Jane 1895.
None of the offspring have given me any leads. I am even trying to phone sporadic loveday no's in Cardiff and Wiltshire but no luck as yet

Gosh its getting more difficult. Just heard from Swindon that Thomas William Loveday who died in Swindon in 1913 is not mine. His death was registered by an Annie Loveday his wife .
Thomas Henry Loveday who was born in 1867 only has his mother Martha registered on birth cert. this does not help with a father JOHN ??

There are no other loveday deaths registered between 1900 and 1914 which correspond with a 1867 birth date or am i missing something.

The problem with widening the search is that years of birth are not given and thereore I have no idea is they are him.

Can anyone help with what happened to the other Loveday children Elizabeth 1893 and Eliza Jane 1895? Marriages, children, deaths etc

Elizabeth may be shown as a servant in Baking on 1911 census. Eliza Jane and Bertha ?

Sorry, just realised Elizabeth died in 1907 !

Update: 1911 Census - found Eliza Haynes born 1874 nee Davies Elizabeths sister - married to Alfred Haynes 1898. Looks like she and her husband have adopted Bertha Loveday now called Bertha Haynes aged 10. There is NO BIRTH REGISTERED for a Bertha Haynes and she does not appear with Eliza and Alfred on the 1901 census.
Also both Berthas born Cardiff and Eliza Davies was born Bridgewater.
One and the same.

Checked with the registrars office the birth of Bertha Haynes 1901, this is not her. Not correct father etc. Also checked the marriage cert of Bertha Haynes to Henry Blackburn on 1 Nov 1924 ( not november ). Bertha has her father as Alfred Haynes. he is not her biological father, this was Thomas Loveday. Therefore she was adopted by her mother Elixabeths sister Eliza and her husband Alfred Haynes.
