Kim, you're looking for what? Lily's descendants, I assume? I would bet you already had the info that's been posted in this thread ...

Have you looked for a marriage for Lily at FreeBMD?

Maybe if you're looking for info about various children in the same family, it would be a good idea to do it all in one thread.

kim Report 12 Oct 2010 20:32

I guess you didn't look at FreeBMD for Lily's marriage then, Kim?

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

That's where MilliemollyAmanda and I looked, and anybody else would look.

MilliemollyAmanda, if you (and others) don't include the *year* in the C&P from FreeBMD -- the death you posted above -- it doesn't tell us a lot!

Also, for the marriage, it really helps to tidy it up:

Marriages Dec 1925
Bill Howard N Jenks Birmingham N. 6d 879
Jenks Lily B Bill Birmingham N. 6d 879

I think Lily married a Howard Bill, rather than a Bill Howard. ;)

Kim, if you search at FreeBMD for

births
surname BILL
mother's surname HOWARD (yikes, I meant BILL of course, not Howard!)

you will find the birth of her one child, which I won't post here as she may be still living (born 1929).

Access to Ancestry isn't free like FreeBMD, so here is her death, from there:

Name: Lily Beatrice Bill
Birth Date: 20 May 1899
Death Registration Month/Year: 1974
Registration district: Birmingham
Inferred County: Warwickshire, West Midlands
Volume: 9c
Page: 1512

You can also find her birth at FreeBMD, so you have her accurate birth year (1899, not 1900). Since the mother's name in 1911 is Nellie, not Annie, you might want to get one of the children's birth certificates to check that, and also search for the marriage or marriages of the father.

Once you've tried FreeBMD, you'll soon be an expert. ;)

Kim, you need to go here: http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

It's the main site for researching your family.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 12 Oct 2010 21:45

Kim, I gave you the link for FreeBMD when I asked whether you had used it.

I prefer this one:

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

(it doesn't tell you you've timed out, or something, I forget why exactly)

You copy the link into the white address line at the top of your screen, and hit Enter, to go there.

Half of what we "helpers" find, we find there, and most of it can be found by anyone (unless there are problems, like mistakes in the transcription, that some of us are practised at sussing out).

We're all new to it once -- somebody had to point me there, 5 or 6 years ago! -- but we all have to use it if we're going to research our family history.
