Find Ancestors

Maria Lester, born 1821 approximately. She had a child with William Potter, born 1791 approximately named Thomas. They were living in Mile End Old Town, Stepney at that time. Please could anyone help with Marias year and place of birth, possible marriage to William or any other information please. Never had to search pre-1837 really!

Yes, Maria and William on the 1851 census when their son Thomas was two years old.

I have Thomas' birth certificate copy.

Be wary of submitted records as they are not always accurate but worth learning your way around.

Not all records are on there, but they hold a lot of films of parish records so you can order those in to your local Mormon church and view them there.

Victoria has left information on this thread about Marias place of birth being recorded as 'Civil parish: Stepney' 'Hundred: Ossulstone (Tower division).

Could anyone please enlighten me as to what the 'hundred' means..never come across that before.

I would ignore that as that has been put in by the transcriber. I've looked at the image and it says both were of full age at the time of marriage. I wonder if the witness Harriet is related to Maria?
