Find Ancestors

I'm struggling with finding the death of Elliott Lees he was born in 1829 in rochdale and was married to Margarat Schofield in 1851 but she died in 1871 i have seen her grave in st pauls norden but he is not in it !!! i've found him in the 1871 census but not in the 1881 census so i presume he died in between these two dates i also wonder wether he re married ??? any help would be gratefully recieved thanks adam

Yes this is him in 1861 i have also found him in 1871

Tree on Ancestry says he died Sept 1864!!!!!

So, 1900 marriage is that of his son Elliott, so maybe the other one is his?

No, he can't have died in 1864 as he is on the 1871 census!

Sorry just noticed he is on 1871 census,so who was the Elliott who died same area 1864.

Just wondering, was Elliott his only name or did he have another one?
It has been seen that people who have two names sometimes change from one census to another so maybe, if he did remarry, he decided to use his other name?

EDIT:- NO there they were on 1871 so not him. Back to the drawing board!

His children's marriage cert.s could give you a clue to his date of death as it should be noted on these if he was deceased, or not, at the time of the marriage.

I have his son's marriage cert 1874 does not say deceased his name is John Thomas born 1851 so maybe he was still alive then, also he is not in his wife's grave so maybe he moved away from the area before he died

Maybe he was mariied twice...

Hi - seen your post about my Greatgreatgrandfather Elliot. I have removed the reference on "ancestry" to his death in 1864 as he was alive for the 1871 Census.

I am sorry but I don't have the answer to what happened to Elliot after 1871.

Hi - new information has come to light on Elliot Lees (my Great great grandfather).
He re-married in 1873 after Margaret's death in 1871.
He married Elizabeth Lord who was also from Norden/Spotland, Rochdale at St. John's in Manchester in June 1873.
Elliot and Elizabeth had a son Joseph William Lees born 1877.
Elliot went to Australia.
In 1880 he was convicted of drunkeness in Morpeth, New South Wales.
in 1888 he suffocated whilst drunk and died in Waratah, Newcastle, New South Wales.
On 20th May 1890 his widow Elizabeth back in Norden was granted his estate of £294.8s.
