I am looking for a marriage between Mary Ellen Goodfellow, born Spennymoor in 1896 and ? Lawton, after 1913. I am sorry that I do not have moe info, but was only given this name today. It may have variations of spelling, ie Laughton, Lorton. I think that they lived in the Chester le Street area. Mary had one child called Olive, born 1913 before she was married. I have tried free BMD and cannot find anything to match. This is my brick wall and missing piece of my jigsaw.

Thanks
Lynda

No sign on freebmd of marriage - or births - combined with surname Goodfellow

Hi,
? Lawton came from a very elderly relative who was a cousin of Mary. However, I am not sure if this may have been the father of Olive. (I suspect this may be the case) or if she married this man. I have searched in Scotland and England and cannot find out who she may have married.

Lynda

Yes, I sent for both the certificates with the stipulation that they had Philip as her father. They refunded most of the money charging £3 per application. It appears that neither are her. I do not know where to look or go with this one. There is another one married to a Fowler in Chester le Street, but after asking family that does not seem to ring any bells either. I just keep hoping.....Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.

Lynda

She's in Chester le Street in 1911:

GOODFELLOW MARY ELLEN 1896 15 Chester le Street Durham

and Olive was born there, so I'd take a flyer on the Fowler marriage!

Yes, Olive had a twin who died shortly after birth on 23/10/1913. Olive was my grandmother. She died in 1937 leaving 3 wee boys the youngest being 10 weeks old. The whole thing is a bit of a mystery if you know what I mean.

You don't know the boys' names, I guess! That might solve the mystery. Unless she was estranged from her first husband, of course. Since they were born in the 1930s I wouldn't put their personal details here on the thread, but if you do know their names -- well, you could post them briefly to give someone a chance to check them for you, for instance in the birth index at Ancestry, and then delete the info.

Uh huh, so you have two threads going about the same thing, lindyloo.

Proper procedure really was to put the info you started this post with in your new post in the existing thread, and leave it at that. Not wanting to waste time finding that which has already been found, I'll bow out.

Thank you all, I do not mean for anyone to replicate anyresearch. When I posted I was not aware that I had duplicated the posting. I have a bit of a memory problem, so apologies. I am truly grateful for all the help that i get from you all.
I have ordered the Fowler marriagege certificate to see if this is the one. Many thanks to you all once again.

Ah, so that's what that nice PM was about! ;)

A lot of people don't know about the excellent memory aid this site provides (one of the few useful things it does provide).

By clicking on My Threads over on the left side, you can always find any thread you have started or posted in.

At this point, probably best to continue it all in the other thread, where the info seems to be concentrated?

Just a quick update and many thanks to you all. Mary ellen died on 18/11/1918 from the Influenza Pandemic. She died in Salford aged 23. She is buried in Birtley cemetry and I visited this in the summer an found both her parents and her headstone.
Once again to all who helped.

Lynda
