Margaret Report 6 Oct 2008 07:13

Richard Lascelles was my g-g-grandfather, born in 1830. He married Sarah Cornwell and they had a son Richard in 1857 born in Sydney Australia. Cannot find out where Richard senior came from. Richard Forrest Lascelles seems to be a family name.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Margaret

I'm amazed that Lascelle is a Yorkshire name. Over here in Canada it's definitely a French Canadian name.

Margaret.
Im sure you are right and the name is French. John De Lascelles seems to have been in Yorkshire from 1100s

Thanks everyone for your assistance. Still nothing definite to go on, really need to find out how and when he came to Australia. Hoping he may have used his middle name, Forrest, as that would clinch it. I need to research his marriage to Sarah Cornwall, will get onto it!
Thanks again.

Hi Margaret,
Yes, I have the marriage certificate for Richard and Hannah, it is Richard's father Richard, I am trying to find information on. He was born around 1830 and maybe the information above that he was born in Polkington is correct. I thought he had come out from England, but it looks like the son came out from England, according to your information.
Many thanks,
Margaret

If you contact the person who submitted the information they might be able to tell you more.
He/she is asking for relatives to contact.

So that must have been Richards second marriage. What about witnesses ?

Yes, Richard was married to Susan Pike, 1881. Not sure what you mean when you say He/she is asking for relatives to contact?

Thanks,

Margaret

Sorry Margaret.
Went off. The site I got the Richard Forrest Lascelles was on Australian surnames MSN and the board name is BaiyerRiver. So I dont know if they are male or female. I have just been back to the site and more info is added
. children
Winifred 1891,
Sarah 1893
Cornwall 1896

Just realised is that your board name?

Margaret

Margaret Report 13 Oct 2008 01:30

Hi again Margaret, I am BaiyerRiver (used to live in PNG). Sarah Lascelles was my Grandmother, married Austen Davis, and my Dad was Austen Cornwall Davis, I am sure these family names are just sent to confuse us! Found some good information on their deaths from Anne K on NSW Surnames - I had forgotten about an entry I made for Hannah Wilson and the info has been sitting there for over a year!
Still nothing on Richard snr.
Regards,
Margaret
