Hello, I'm trying to find Charles Francis Lamble b. 1862 Christchurch with Francis Thornton Blyth Lamble b. 1885 Toxteth Park as I think Francis is his son. Charles' mother was Flora Blyth Campbell who married Thomas Lamble.
1871 Charles is at a coastguard cottage in Havant, Hampshire with his parents.
1911 Charles seems, from the index, to be living with his daughter Elizabeth Flora b. 1889 who I think is Flora Lamble b. Edmonton. Francis also seems to be with his daughter Elizabeth Patience Flora b. 1910 Wandsworth.
I can't find Charles or Francis between 1871 and 1911 and I can't find a marriage for Charles.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

"1871 Charles is at a coastguard cottage in Havant, Hampshire with his parents."

But why not tell us who his parents are instead of making us go hunting??

Age: 9
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1862
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Thomas Lamble
Mother's Name: Flroa B Lamble
Where born: Christchurch, Hampshire, England

Thomas Lamble 44 - Coast Guard Service - born Salcombe, Devon

Thanks very much. I didn't know he had a son called Thomas . No I couldn't find them in 1891 Janey. I tried a few alternative spellings for Lamble. Preacher writer that's intersting Glitter Baby. Thanks very much both of you.

I expected to find them as Samble or Tamble -- Ancestry is well known for those little mistakes. ;) Still not seeing the family in 1881.

Thomas was Charles's father's name, so that explains that!

The second line in my first post said who his parents were. Thanks for the marriage.

Forgive me.

The point remains that providing the details of a census record (the individuals' dates and places of birth in particular) is best, since anyone searching for them in another year needs that info. That's what I was looking for in the 1871.

Ok I'll remeber that for any future posts.. Thanks.

They are not wanting to be found in 1881.

Just for ideas of where they might have been ...

One set of my gr-grparents decided to wander off to Australia in the late 1880s and return to England in the early 1890s ... just in time, of course, to miss the 1891 census, which would likely have contained some crucial bits of info for me.

I wonder whether your Lambles did the same sort of thing pre- and post-1881??

So she at least has to be *somewhere* in 1881. ;)

Maybe they did Janey. They did wander off occasionally. There are some Lambles born in Ireland and even one in China...!
Thanks Lindsey.

Are you the person who corrected "Flroa" in the 1871 census at Ancestry?

If not, you want to contact that person maybe.

If so, good, I'd maybe just add another name variant (put her birth surname) and indicate your relationship and then anyone else who finds the household will know they should contact you.

The only other census I find her in is 1861, in Christchurch with husband Thomas and no kids yet, aged 20 (in line with my reading of the 1871 census).

Thanks for offering to leave a clue for someone to find me on Ancestry Janey and for the info. Thanks Gliiter Baby. I think Charles died in 1945 Luton age 82.

Heh, when I said "I'd" do that at Ancestry, I meant "if I were you". ;)

But if you don't have Ancestry access, I would do it -- if you want to send me an email address by PM, one that you don't mind having posted on the internet (e.g. a gmail account that isn't in your real name), I'd be happy to do that tomorrow -- add Flora's full birth surname with your contact info.

gallifrey

gallifrey Report 1 Apr 2011 00:55

Sorry Janey. I don't have a subscription on Ancestry, only on Genes R. but I have a public tree on there so that should attract potential relatives. My gmail adress has my real name in it. i didn't really think that through when I set it up.....

JaneyCanuck

If you want me to do that, or just for general future use, there's an easy fix.

www.gmail.com

Open an account! It's permanent online (changing your ISP has no effect on it), and you can even have messages forwarded from there to your "real" email account.

You could make an account name along the lines of

lamble.campbell.family @gmail .com

(I was tempted to say "fambly"!) and just use it for family history contacts, that sort of thing.

I have about 20 gmail accounts myself, all for different purposes (professional business, personal business, family, contacts at GR, contacts at other websites, signing up at places on line that will generate spam, etc. etc.).
