I am trying to find my father's mother's father John Laird who was born in 1817 at The Birches, Carnoustie, Forfar Scotland. He married Mary Milne and they had 5 children - Walter, Charles (my grandmother's father) David, Jean and Kate born 1863 and died 2.5.1950. Charles married Elizabeth Isabel (born 1886 and died ?1942). They had 5 children - Gladys, May, Ivy (my grandmother - born 1898 in Bort Elizabeth, South Africa died 1981 - married Henry Walter Brown 1882 - 1963), Jack and Douglas. Henry had siblings William, Maey, Dora, Hetty and Phillip. Their parents were Genry George Brown (1855 - 1916 - builder of Frome, Somerset and went to SA 1880) and Sarah Jane Williamson (1855 -1963) they were married 16.4.1883 at Douglas, SA. Ivy' mother Elizabeth Isabel was one of 7 children and her parents were Elizabeth ? and William Kaye - he was working on a farm Bala/something, near Douglas Isle of Man, brought his family to South Africa 1884, and was cheated out of a farm bought near Pietermaritzburg, SA, and became a farm namager near Harrison, Natal. |
