Keith Report 8 Jan 2008 06:18

Thomas Johnston of Crawshalt, married a Janet Dobie, died in difficulties, and their eldest son John, went out as a Surgeon to St. Elizabeth Jamaica. He died in Dumfries c1795.
He left a daughter, Anne (or Susanna Jane Hope?) Johnston who married John Campbell Moore, a Planter in Westmoreland Parish Jamaica.
John the Surgeon, had 5 brothers. Only James, a merchant in Maxwellton, left sons, and William, W. S., left a daughter who married a physician in Ireland.

The dau of Anne and John Campbell Moore, Deborah Heath Moore is my GGG Grandmother. She married Robt Briggs in London 1824.
The Library at Dumfries has suggested that Crawshalt may be a farm now called Crawthat in the Parish of Tundergarth.

If anyone is able to assist with tracing any members of this family and/or the whereabouts of Crawshalt, I will be most appreciative of any leads whatsoever .

Sincerely
Keith Briggs
