We can -- but so can you!

http://www.familysearch.org

click on "advanced search"
then click on "International Genealogy Index"

and search for Christopher Parkinson, birth, 1784 (I said +/- 5 years to be on the safe side).

You'll find his baptism record, with his parents' names.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 12 Jun 2008 20:30

Then you can click on the batch number -- P000681 -- and search for other births with the same parents' names, to find siblings.

Unfortunately, in this case, there aren't any.

But you can search in the batch for surname Parkinson, and find some other possible relations to note.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 12 Jun 2008 20:47

If you look in the IGI for the marriage of Christopher Parkinson in Durham, 1810 +/- 10 years, you see two entries.

One is "submitted" -- that means that someone, we don't know who, submitted the info to the Mormons at some point. We squint suspiciously when we see submitted records, and note them for future investigation, unless there's good reason to believe them.

In this case, the other record is "extracted" -- it's taken from an actual parish record (there's a batch number that matches the parish records for the dates and place). It could be your Christopher, or it could be a different one.

The submitted record identifies Christopher as "of Long Newton" and gives his wife's name. That's the one you'll want to try to prove or disprove. I look at it and think: it has an actual date, that must have come from somewhere, so it's at least worth considering.

JaneyCanuck Report 12 Jun 2008 20:54

So I did a search for the births of children (no name) with parents Christopher Parkinson and Margaret, 1810-1830, in Durham, and there were none.

In the 1851 census, there's a Christopher Parkinson in Durham married to a Jane:

Name: Christopher Parkinson
Age: 64
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1787
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Jane
Gender: Male
Where born: Whitby, Yorkshire, England

Of course the question that should have been asked was:

what do YOU know about Christopher Parkinson born 1784 in Longnewton??

i.e. where do you have his name from, how do you know his date and place of birth? What records do you have that we might be spending our time finding all over again -- or that might help locate something more for you?
