Quite easy to look yourself for children.......on freebmd. MMN is on index after 1911

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

For info about the man, buy the marriage cert. It will tell you his age and his father's details (if he knew him)

Is this Bessie?

Births Mar 1900
Mercer Bessie Mary Portsea 2b 528

Could be her in 1911:

MERCER BESSIE MARY 1900 11 Gateshead Durham

which would put her closer to the place of marriage.

If not, she may have been previously married and Mercer was her first married name, so births would show her birth surname rather than Mercer. But I don't see a previous marriage of a Bessie M to a Mercer.

The
Donoghue-Mercer marriage certificate would be useful for that reason and also to get the age and father's name etc for John Donoghue.

JaneyCanuck Report 29 Sep 2010 19:49

I think this would be the household in 1901 -- John born 1890:

Civil parish: Toxteth Park
County/Island: Lancashire
John Donoghue 48 - born Liverpool
Mary Donoghue 33 - born Liverpool
John Donoghue 11 - born Liverpool
Michael Donoghue 9
Patrick Donoghue 6

Oops, you corrected it, Irene. Want to delete the incorrect one you'd posted before to avoid confusion?

... But I think Anthony knows all this, he was just looking to see whether they had kids.

I can't see deaths for them. Might they have emigrated?

I really think Anthony is just looking for what became of John and his wife!

I wonder whether this might be John in 1911:

DONOHUE JOHN M 1891 20 Liverpool Lancashire
(born Liverpool)

before joining his brothers.

Anthony

Anthony Report 30 Sep 2010 15:10

Thanks for all replies , John was aged 12 when his Father died in 1902 , I was shown an old photo of the brothers when I was a kid and told they all moved to the Newcastle Area .
I have received information of Michael and Patrick but not John it could be he returned to Liverpool but as far as I am aware he had no direct family in the Area , maybe he never married .

Um ...

"I am trying to find any information on John Donoghue who Married Bessie M Mercer in Tynemouth , Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1918 ."

So ... you hadn't actually verified that this is *your* John Donoghue? (Like, from the age and occupation and father's name on the marriage certificate ...)

Well you can't get far without expenditure.......if you wish to have an accurate tree.

And asking people to find out what happened to someone whose identity you are only guessing at helps neither you nor anyone else.

You didn't even tell us the birth year of the person you were looking for, although you obviously knew it.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Oct 2010 22:35

I guess if we'd all left it where you started, Flick -- you can find births by searching at FreeBMD -- that would have answered the question. ;)

It is just interesting that there doesn't seem to be a good match for the two people in death records, or anything likely looking in outbound passenger records ...

Anthony

Anthony Report 2 Oct 2010 17:50

Flick,

Please read my reply to JaneyCanuck dated 29/09 re year of birth for John re 1890, also for information I have used my expenditure not always with the right results .

Flick Report 2 Oct 2010 22:26

You didn't mention his year of birth in your original posting.............you asked for details of a man who married, who we were led to believe was a relation of yours, when in fact, the marriage was that of a man whose name happened to be the same

The only way to determine whether that was the man you seek is to get the cert, for his age, and his father's details.
