Mary Jenion

Yvonne Report 15 Nov 2010 22:16

I have marriage cert for Mary Jenion and William Tipping (14 July 1874), father given as William Jenion. I have the birth cert of Mary Jenion, b. 28 Jan 1851 in Huyton, Lancs., parents given as William Jenion (a pavier) and Jane Cowley. I got the marriage cert for William and Jane (14 July 1850), both given as full age. William's father given as Henry (a pavier), witnesses given as Henry and Mary. Name is given as Janion not Jenion on this certificate.
I am trying to find the birth of William. I found Mary Jenion age 2 mths living with her grandfather, Henry, mother Jane, but no William. Jane is shown as married not widowed. I searched for William and found him lodging at Great Oxford St. with a Martindale family. He's shown as age 23 (1828) and married, working as a pavier. I'm thinking that maybe William and Jane were separated and that Mary had no siblings. I can't find any of them in the 1861 census. Can anyone suggest how I can find his birth and/or death.

You won't find his birth.............too early. But you may find a baptism......

Try the IGI

His death should be on freebmd....unless he emigrated

Thanks LiverBird1. I've just checked it out but the spelling is Jennion and the marriage is given as 1853 - marr cert gives it as 1850.

I think I hit the wrong button so this reply may arrive twice.
Thanks for the christening for Jane. Judging by her birth date it looks as though the William (born 1828) I found in 1851 is probably the correct one. I wonder where he was in 1861 though.

Thanks MaureeninNY, this is great. On William's marriage cert the witnesses are given as Henry and Mary Janion so they could possibly be his parents. His father is given as Henry.
Where did you find this?

Hi Yvonne,
Sorry,it's on Ancestry.

This looks like the family in 1841:
1841 Ancestry
Name: Henry Genson
Age: 50
Estimated birth year: abt 1791
Gender: Male
Where born: Lancashire, England
Civil Parish: Huyton
Hundred: West Derby
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England
Occupation:Paviour
Registration district: Prescot
Sub-registration district: Hutton
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members:
Name Age
Henry Genson 50
Mary Genson 50
Margarett Genson 20
Henry Genson 15
William Genson 10

Thomas Genson 2
Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 512; Book: 7; Civil Parish: Huyton; County: Lancashire; Enumeration District: 2; Folio: 29; Page: 12; Line: 18;

I think his brother Henry married a Mary as well,so they could have been the witnesses too.

Did you spot the possible death I posted?

I would guess that as a pavier William would often work away from home which could be why he is not with Jane in 1851. I found these possible births of siblings for mary

Thanks Maureen, it does look like the family - seems there's another spelling of the name.
I used to live in Huyton many years ago and I didn't think it was that big but there seems to be a lot of Jenions with their various spellings.

Yvonne

Yvonne Report 15 Nov 2010 23:12

Thanks lancashireAnn. This certainly looks good.
Also, Flick, I replied to you, did you post another death?

Yvonne

Yvonne Report 15 Nov 2010 23:18

Just looking at these possible siblings for Mary. I think I'll send for the birth cert of one of them and see who the parents are. I think it's a strong possibility - I never thought of the idea of William working away from home. You guys are amazing.
Thanks again everybody.

Thanks lancashireAnn. I have Ancestry and I just looked it up. It certainly looks a strong possibility. It does say Jane was born in County of Carlow (I think that might be Ireland) but the others match up. I've also seen that name Rushton (the boarder) somewhere before. I'll have to check if I have a note of it.

Yvonne

Yvonne Report 15 Nov 2010 23:50

I knew I'd seen that Rushton name before. I checked my notes and in the 1881 census there's a Jane Gennion (servant & widow), born in Carlow, Ireland, living with a Thomas Rushton (unmarried head of household) and there's an Ellen Tipping age 6, born Whiston, visiting. Now, Mary Jenion married William Tipping and they had a daughter - Elizabeth Ellen Tipping, born in Whiston in 1875, she was my husband's grandmother.
