What is the connection with the 1886 marriage of a William James and Ann Eliza Jarvis? Is this the father remarrying, is it a belated marriage? If these are Margaret Ann's parents have you looked for the birth registration of a Margaret Ann Jarvis rather than Margaret Ann James?

In the 1901 census Margaret Ann's birthplace is shown as Blockwood which should I think be Blackwood.

It is possible that her birth was not registered in Bedwelty registration district.

Yes, I'm just worrying about that birth and census too. I've just realised that it says aged 8 on the census, not 5.
Any idea what registration Blackwood comes under please Jonesey?

I don't know as it does not show up in any of the Monmouthshire registration districts. From 1894 it became one of the urban districts of Bedwelty but if Margaret Ann was 8 years old in 1901 then her birth would have been before that.

I'm not at all convinced about that birth Gordon. I have had another look and there are about 12 births of a Margaret Ann James in Wales that would fit with her being 8 in 1901. Non of them have Blackwood listed or shout out as being the right one. Sorry if I've mislead you.

I have had another look and there are only really two births in MONMOUTH that fit her age in 1901 and they are both in Newport. The registers now come under 3 different offices, so it might be worth e-mailing them to ask whether they would hold the births for Blackwood from 1892 and 1893. Tell them what you need as well. You never know they may even tell you whether they have it or not. I will post them below -
