Trying to find details of Margaret Jakeman, my paternal grandmother. Family legend has it that Margaret was possibly a foundling, born in Derby. I have a birth certificate dated 16th December 1871 for a new born female child found exposed in the All Saints area of Derby. The birth being registered by one James Parkins, an overseer of 6 Sadler Gate, Derby. Apparently there are no records in Derby for admissions to the Derby Union Workhouse, or any other institutions at that time. We do have possession of a marriage certificate for Margaret having married my grandfather Henry Jones on 10th December 1894 in Manchester. On the Marriage certificate, Margaret's father is shown as William Jakeman, a soldier, however, I am unable to trace a William Jakeman. Could anyone help as to where I should direct my next enquiries ?? |
