William Herman Jacobs born 1837 ( ? Saxony) Germany, first appeared on 1871 census living at 5 Russell St. Battersea. married Emma Pye born 1844 from Borden Kent. Marriage cert. states he was a widower (and his fathers name was William Christian Jacobs from Germany) his occupation was musical instrument maker. According to various census he took out British citizenship. Can anyone point me in the right direction for finding out were he came from in Germany. Unable to track down anything on his citizenship registration as I would have thought that would have provided the required information. Might well have been a German Jew although have no verification of this. |
